We all met at the Bandstand on the Seafront to be inspected by the dignitaries and the Mayor and Mayoress . 1st Caister Scouting Group looked spectacular with many smart, proud Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Leaders.
We all paraded from the Bandstand to the Hippodrome Circus whilst the Police held back the traffic and lots of parents/carers and supporters lined the streets. 1st Caister's GSL and Leaders were mighty proud of our well turned out Group.
We had great fun at the Hippodrome, dancing and singing along to Tosh and his band. 1st Caister was commented upon being, yet again, the best Group taking part in all the actions and more - well done 1st Caister.

November 2008 - 6 Scout Signs that Christmas is on its way
The first sign that Christmas is just around the corner is the Remembrance Day Parade and Service. I know Christmas is still a long way off, but it has a tendency to creep up on you. Twenty Two Scouts along with Cub and Beaver Scouts and their leaders attended the service at the Holy Trinity Church, Caister. We were proud to see the young people turn out for this good cause, in fact there were so many youngsters most of them had to sit in the choir stalls or on the floor.
The second sign is from the Scout programme. We always plan a wide game into the program during the winter nights. A wide game is basically a team game played over a large area, we are lucky that we have the beach on our doorstep. The youngsters love to get out and about in the dark with their torches, something we used to do as kids but something youngsters today miss out on.
Shortly after this the third sign looms. This is the District Carol Service. All Cub, Beaver, Scouts and Explorer Scouts and their leaders from around the District come together to celebrate the Christmas Season with carols and readings. The collection from the service this year will go to Caister Lifeboat. Also during the service the young people are encourage to donate a gift to the less fortunate youngsters in the area. These are placed under the Christmas tree and collected for distribution by the Salvation Army.
Next is a favourite from the Scouts programme, Christmas crafts. The Scouts make cards and a variety of crafts to adorn their homes over Christmas.
The next sign is a particular favourite of mine and signifies the Christmas is just around the corner. This is the Christingle Service at the Holy Trinity Church, Caister. This also seems to be very popular with the young people, probably because there are free sweets involved. If you’ve never been to a Christingle service think about giving it a look, it’ll make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. The best part for me is when the church lights dim and all the young people parade in a long line around the church holding their Christingles.
The Christmas party is the final sign that Christmas is looming. This takes part every year as part of the Scout’s program. Everyone is asked to bring in a plate of food. We basically play games and make a lot of noise, then scoff the food and then play more games and make more noise. That marks the end of the Scout year. We meet again in early January |
